This has to be the longest title in the history of all recipes, but… not mentioning the chocolate sauce or the “cookie dough” just isn’t acceptable.
Yes, this scrumptious decadence really is healthy, allergy friendly and only requires 10 minutes to prepare. It also needs only 6 ingredients – all of which I am 99.9% certain you have in your pantry right now! Is this awesome, or is it ohmygoshsototallyawsome?
The “melted ice cream” is simply just a blended mix of frozen and fresh bananas – I know, I know, it’s been done before and if you don’t like bananas, that’s an issue… but it’s soooo good! It’s all creamy and sweet and gooey… *fans herself*
The chocolate sauce beats all chocolate sauces out there. It tastes like melted dark chocolate, has the texture of melted dark chocolate… only it’s not melted dark chocolate. It’s just cocoa powder with maple syrup and hot water. That’s it. Doesn’t sound appetising? Give it a try. Seriously. You’re missing out.
The “cookie dough” is another component of this recipe that tastes-like-X-but-actually-isn’t-X. It’s just coarsely blended softened dates and peanuts (you can also go with almonds). The result is a sticky, buttery, occasionally crunchy mess, that tastes like caramel cookie dough and which you could easily eat with a spoon. But do refrain, for if it tastes amazing on its own, it reaches WHOA WOW THIS IS MY NEW FAVOURITE THING levels when combined with the melted ice cream smoothie and chocolate sauce.
In the end, this melted ice cream smoothie bowl is a healthy vegan paleo dessert that you could easily eat for breakfast (hell yea) – all the while knowing that it’s actually a fairly balanced, wholesome meal. And let’s be real, people, the luscious melted ice cream mixed with the remnants of the chocolate sauce at the bottom of a sundae is the best part, anyway.
- ¾ frozen banana
- ¾ fresh banana
- ⅛ cup cocoa powder
- ½ – 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 2½ tbsp hot water
- ¼ cup dates (~8 dates), soaked in hot water for about 2 minutes and drained
- ½ cup peanuts or almonds
- 2 tbsp water (optional)
- Blend the frozen and fresh bananas together until you get a smooth mixture. The consistency should be between that of a smoothie and that of an ice cream.
- Mix all chocolate sauce ingredients together until you obtain a smooth, silky mixture. It should have the consistency of melted chocolate.
- In a food processor, blend the dates and nuts of choice together until you obtain a mix of finely ground, sticky clumps and bigger, crunchy pieces.
- If you want the mixture to be stickier/gooier, add water and blend for a few seconds.
- Transfer the "melted ice cream" into a bowl of choice.
- Pour on the chocolate sauce and sprinkle with "cookie dough" pieces.
